TRIO UBMS Wingate Summer Portion

One of the most exciting parts of TRIO UBMS is our 6-week summer stay at Wingate University, held each year from early June through late July. This unforgettable experience gives students a real taste of college life—academically, socially, and personally—while being fully supported every step of the way.

Program Structure

  • Weeks 1–2: Commuter Phase
Students are dropped off at Wingate University in the morning and picked up in the afternoon. These weeks focus on getting students familiar with campus and into the rhythm of mock college classes.

  • Weeks 3–6: Residential Phase
Students live on campus Monday through Thursday and go home for the weekend.

Life on Campus

  • Dorm Life
Students stay in college dorms with a roommate from the TRIO program—usually someone they choose themselves. Dorms are not co-ed: boys and girls have separate hallways and are not allowed in each other’s rooms at any time. TRIO students are housed in their own private hallway, completely separate from college students.

  • Supervision & Safety
Student safety is our top priority.

    • Students are never left alone, regardless of age or parent preference.

    • They are always monitored by staff, and if staff are ever momentarily unavailable, students are required to travel in pairs or groups.

    • We have round-the-clock night monitors stationed in student hallways during the residential weeks.

    • No drugs or alcohol are tolerated under any circumstance.

Academics & Activities

  • Mock College Classes
Students attend structured, high-quality academic courses designed to prepare them for their upcoming high school year. These classes simulate the college experience and help students build confidence in their academic skills.

  • Dining
All meals—breakfast, lunch, and dinner—are provided for free in Wingate University's dining hall. Students eat like real college students and enjoy the full campus dining experience.

  • Fun & Freedom with Structure
When they’re not in class, students get to enjoy:

    • Pool access

    • Recreational campus activities

    • Bowling, skating trips, and more

    • Time to explore campus with friends

    • The chance to work alongside other college students and build lasting memories

Our summer program is a safe, exciting, and deeply enriching opportunity that helps students grow academically, socially, and personally. It’s a chance to see what college is really like—and to realize that it’s well within reach.
